The Minorcans After New Smyrna (Wed., Oct 1)
The Minorcans are part of the fabric and soul of St. Augustine today. Come hear their fascinating story. After nine harrowing years, the Minorcans fled Andrew Turnbull’s New Smyrna plantation to St. Augustine. Over the next 250 years, they became the old-timers of the Ancient City. What did they accomplish, and why should the Minorcans be compared with the Cajuns of Louisiana and the Amish or “Pennsylvania Dutch” as one of America’s fascinating ethnic groups? Join Flagler College English Emeritus Professor and Minorcan Studies Project Founder, Dr. Darien Andreu, for this captivating talk!
